‘We had a conversation with the chairman’: Nabi on his Kaizer Chiefs future

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is already planning for next season having missed out on Top 8 finish.

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is defiant that he is not leaving the club at the end of the season.

The 59-year-old Tunisian coach has had a mediocre first season at Naturena, guiding the team to ninth in the league, which was just one position up from last season. His tenure was somehow salvaged by the Nedbank Cup triumph, which was the club’s first trophy in a decade.

Speaking to the media after Kaizer Chiefs‘ goalless draw with Polokwane City, Nabi said his future would not be influenced by failure to finish in the Top 8.

“I’m not going to be influenced by today’s result and undermine what the team has won this season,” he told SuperSport TV.

“FIFA recognises two champions, the one who wins the league and the one who wins the cup.

“I think nobody can undermine what the team has done this season, they won a cup when we were 10 years without a trophy. But for me it’s not even about the 10 years, for me wins an official title from the FIFA,” Nabi added.

Before Saturday’s match, Nabi said he spoke to Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung about potential recruitments.

“On Friday, we had a conversation with the chairman, and we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players,” he said as per FARPost.

“I will not say how many or which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working very hard, and everyone knows the needs for the team.

Nabi says he is still a Kaizer Chiefs coach despite finishing outside top 8

“The contact has started already, and we hope that we will get what we need, but we are sure that the team is going to improve a lot.”

According to Nabi, he is set to continue as Kaizer Chiefs coach next season despite exit rumours. The Tunisian did deliver the trophy to Naturena after all.

Should Amakhosi keep Nabi?
